About The Chief

The Chief is a UK-based Ivorian singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer whose powerful vocals and distinctive fusion of Acoustic Groove, African Rock and Ivorian Soul create a sound that is both authentic and unforgettable.

Born in Côte d'Ivoire, his musical journey began in the village of Konan Kokorekro, near Toumodi, where he was raised by his uncle, the village chief—a title that would later inspire his stage name. Surrounded by the sounds of traditional Baoulé musicians performing with handmade three-string guitars, he developed a lifelong passion for music. As a child, he built his own guitars from boxes and string, spending countless hours recreating the songs and rhythms that had captured his imagination.

The Chief began performing professionally in 1988, appearing in towns and cities across Côte d'Ivoire, including Yamoussoukro, Abidjan, Toumodi, Soubré and Lakota. A gifted vocalist, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, he has written hundreds of songs and released music including Jésus le Tout-Puissant, I Repent, Forever More, NNOTIE and Possession du Territoire.

Now based in the United Kingdom, The Chief continues to develop a distinctive musical identity that bridges cultures and generations. Alongside his original music, he is increasingly recognised for reimagining timeless international classics in his native Baoulé, transforming familiar songs into fresh, soulful performances that introduce audiences to the richness and beauty of one of West Africa's most celebrated languages.
